Recently, the finals and grand finals of the 8th "Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press Cup" National University Student Cross-Cultural Competence Competition concluded successfully in Shanghai. KONG MENGSEAN, our Cambodian international student, stood out among over 3,000 participants from more than 1,050 universities across 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities nationwide due to his profound insights and vivid presentation of China's photovoltaic technology and green development wisdom. He was awarded the Grand Prize in the "Tell China, Spread China" short video competition, becoming the only winner of this award level in Zhejiang Province and bringing honor to our university.
The 8th "Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press Cup" National College Student Cross-Cultural Competence Competition was guided by the China Education Association for International Exchange, organized by Shanghai International Studies University, undertaken by Shanghai Foreign Language Publishing House, and supported academically by the Shanghai International Studies University Cross-Cultural Research Center. The competition aims to address contemporary challenges from diverse perspectives and convey cultural warmth through the wisdom of young people.
Under the guidance of faculty members from the School of Foreign Languages, KONG MENGSEAN (Chinese name: Gong Mingxian) shared her profoundly impressive insights into China's "photovoltaic+" development practices, drawing on her firsthand experiences in the country. She observed that photovoltaic applications in China have long transcended traditional road scenarios, extending to residential building rooftops, rural fish ponds, factory sheds, highway slopes, and other idle spaces. This "photovoltaic+" model—which harnesses energy from idle spaces—not only generates clean electricity but also conserves land resources, embodying an ecological philosophy of "not endlessly exploiting external resources but awakening the value of internal spaces." She emphasized that China's photovoltaic technology and its flexible application models represent not only a sophisticated vision for Chinese-style modernization but also a "China solution" for global green development that balances efficiency, intelligence, and sustainability. This Eastern "wisdom of symbiosis" will inject strong momentum into the global green transition. With fluent delivery, sincere sharing, and a unique cross-cultural perspective, KONG MENGSEAN elucidated the practical significance and viable pathways for China's photovoltaic technology to expand internationally, earning high acclaim from the judges.
"This beam of light illuminating the China ramp also illuminated my understanding of cross-cultural communication," KONG MENGSEAN said after receiving the award. She noted that China's green development practices represent not only technological innovation but also embody the philosophy of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. She hopes to serve as an ambassador for China-Cambodia green development exchanges in the future, enabling more countries and regions to understand China's solutions and share in its development achievements.
This award not only serves as a high recognition of KONG MENGSEAN's personal cross-cultural communication skills and innovative thinking, but also vividly demonstrates the achievements of the university's international education. The School of International Education at our institution has consistently been committed to cultivating outstanding international talents who understand and embrace China. By establishing platforms for cross-cultural communication and exchange, it enables international students to gain deeper insights into China and share China's stories, thereby contributing to the mutual learning between Chinese and foreign civilizations. Moving forward, the university will further strengthen cross-cultural education to nurture more high-caliber professionals with global perspectives and cross-cultural communication competencies, fostering deeper and more substantive cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries.
