Chinese Listening is a compulsory course for foreign students who have no prior knowledge of Chinese. Three levels including elementary, intermediate and advanced will be offered, and more levels could be provided according to students’ acceptability and requirements. The course will be instructed in Chinese.
2. Duration
Elementary level, 4 hours per week；
Intermediate level and above, 4 hours per week.
3. Course Goals
1. Elementary level：
Develop students’ basic listening skills and the ability to distinguish easily-confused sound, rhyme, tone, syllabus, words and sentence structures. Be familiar with the idiomatic usage of figures, time and other grammar formats in spoken Chinese. The acquisition of certain common vocabulary and comprehension of certain daily conversations.
2. Intermediate level：
Develop students’ more advanced listening skills and the ability to distinguish easily-confused sound, rhyme, tone, syllabus, words and sentence structures. The ability to identify complicated information including word stress, rhyme, rhythm and others. The acquisition of more key vocabulary including certain terminology. And the fast comprehension in a oral communication.
3. Advanced Level：
Guarantee students’ full mastery of basic listening skills, the ability to identify general rules of Pinyin spelling and to take dictation exercises. The accumulation of general Chinese vocabulary. The comprehension of true intentions of a conversation. The mastery of complex reading and listening comprehension.

6. Examination and Performance Calculation
Mid-term examination and Final examination in each semester. The overall course grade will be 30% mid-term written examination, 40% final written examination and 30% ordinary achievement.
